A Study on pre-service early childhood teachers' perception for the confucian value as korean traditional values

The purpose of this study was to investigate pre-service early childhood teachers' perceptionfor the confucian value as korean traditional values.The subjects were 409 pre-service early childhood teachers majoring in early childhoodeducation at 2 colleges, which are located in J and D city.The questionnaire was used by Kang(2012) was used. It included 29 items consisted oftwo categories. First category was the virtuous completion(belief, conscience, ethic, sincerity,responsibility, endeavor attitude diligence, generous ming, self-reflection, modesty, discretion inspeaking and acting, liberality, faith, courtesy, reciprocity, integrity, harmony, principle,education, simplicity, filial piety, and harmonious human relationship). Second category wasthe confucian value(formality of rituals, attendance at common rites, orthodoxy of a familyline, ancestral rites, traditions, respect and obedience to the old, and justification).The results were as follows: Most of the pre-service early childhood teachers perceived thatthe confucian value as korean traditional values was important. To put it concretely, theyperceived that the confucian value related the virtuous completion was important, but theconfucian value related social order was commonplace. They received that the confucian valuerelated the virtuous completion was more important than the confucian value related socialorder.There were significant differences in pre-service early childhood teachers' perception for theconfucian value as korean traditional values according to there grade, interpersonal relationship anddepartment satisfaction.
