A Systematic Review of Multicultural Art Education Programs for School Aged Students in Korea

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to provide implications and directions for developing andimplementing multicultural art educations based on the systematic review of studies onmulticultural art education programs for school aged students in Korea. Total 8 studies werechosen and analyzed on authors(year), participants, types of research, research design, programcontents, measurements, and brief results of the research. The secondary analysis was focusedon three areas, including (a) multicultural education, (b) teaching and learning strategies, and(c) art activities, which were consisted of 11 sub areas(diversity, cultural relativism, anti-biaseducation, multicultural capability of students, consideration of students from multiculturalfamilies, reorganization of curriculum, diverse instructional methods, integrated education,experiential learning, expressions, and artworks appreciations. From the results of the analysis,implications and discussions for further studies and practice were provided.
